AMAATI is a Ghanaian social enterprise that pioneered the revival of Fonio in Northern Ghana. An enterprise that works with farmers, particularly women, in producing and processing fonio. The enterprise is formed with the idea of creating sustainable livelihoods for women farmers whose lands are degraded due to their excessive usage and creating a land management system where the lands can be regenerated and used to grow other crops. We revive fonio in Northern Ghana on degraded/abandoned lands that have been exhaustively used. We started with ten (10) landless women in the 2014 production season, and today we work with over 2000 farmers.
Branded as Dim Fonio, we offer fonio products that are 100% fonio without any additives. It’s a gluten-free cereal that is very good for vegans. Fonio contains high fiber, iron, amino acids, protein, potassium, and other nutrients. It’s malleable enough to be used for breakfast, lunch, and supper dishes.
Fonio does not contain any glutamine or gliadin proteins, which are the constituents of gluten, making this cereal suitable for people with gluten intolerance.
Dim Fonio is 100% free from additives that make it very tasty and healthy, and everybody can take it, being it diabetic, obese, pregnant, or lactating mothers, vegetarians, or even children 6 months and above.
